How to make a Vesper

A drink originated in the fictional world of James Bond, the Vesper (or Vesper Martini) is essentially a twist on a classic Martini, with no olives and with vodka added into the mix. According to the book Casino Royale, where the drink was first mentioned, Bond enjoys this spirited drink shaken, not stirred (as he often does). While the general rule of thumb is to stir spirits-only cocktails, shaking it might actually be a good thing here, as the slightly greater dilution helps bring down the ABV of this very, very potent tipple. Feel free to adjust the volume of spirits used if needed.


  • 90ml gin
  • 30ml vodka
  • 15ml dry vermouth (or Lillet Blanc)
  • Garnish: Lemon twist


  1. Chill a Martini glass in the freezer.
  2. Fill shaker with ice and add in gin, vodka and vermouth, then shake well.
  3. Strain mixture into chilled Martini glass, garnish with lemon twist and serve.

Yields 1 glass
